Two Kings. One Savior, Christ, and Lord.

Dr. Jonathan Murphy • December 22, 2024
Luke 2:1–14

Among other things, Luke’s nativity story compares and contrasts Caesar Augustus with Jesus. Augustus was at the height of his power and reign when Jesus is born. He was considered the Savior, the Worshipped One (Augustus), and Lord, as in, a son of God. Luke knows very well how Romans—including Roman Christians like Theophilus—would have heard the declaration that Jesus is the true Savior, Christ (Chosen One), and Lord (son of God). Ultimately, the Greatest of All Time kings is Jesus! So, Theophilus, early Christians, and Christians today can stand firm in the faith and loyal to Jesus in an anti-Jesus world!
