Nine virtues produced by the Holy Spirit
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23 (NASB)
Jesus promised His followers the gift of the Holy Spirit, who would dwell in them forever. The Spirit brings life, frees us from sin, and empowers us to live with strength. But what does a life transformed by the Spirit look like?
The apostle Paul gives us a vivid picture in Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When the fruit of the Spirit is evident, the contrast with the works of the flesh is unmistakable. Each virtue that grows within us is an opportunity to reflect God’s glory and show the difference that living by the Spirit makes.
